About the Royal Oak Country Pub & Restaurant

Recently transformed by an extensive refurbishment, the Royal Oak is undergoing a renaissance. Situated on the southern edge of Midhurst on the road to Chichester, the Royal Oak is set in a beautiful location in the South Downs National Park and the pub enjoys spectacular views of the Downs.

Leaning on their experience gained at the Rising Sun in Milland, the Royal Oak team are steadily building the reputation of the pub as a place to visit for great food. The menu consists of pub classics, but also takes advantage of the extensive seasonal produce found in and around West Sussex and Hampshire, so offers a wide range of fish, meat, game and vegetarian dishes, cooked in a modern style with influences from around the world. As well as the main menu, there are sharing boards (perfect for picking at while enjoying a drink in the garden) and a range of homemade bar snacks.

Recently freed from the brewery tie, the team at the Royal Oak have taken full advantage of this situation to provide an extensive choice of draught ales, lagers and ciders, as well as interesting bottled products. The wine list focuses on Old World wines, but includes some fabulous choices from, Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand and the USA.

With summer now arrived, the large garden is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or a quiet drink, while taking in the view of the South Downs. And with choices of walks and bike trails nearby, and with its large car park, the Royal Oak makes the perfect meeting place to start or end a day’s activity. Or after a busy weekend, our Sunday evening barbecue is the best way to finish the day. The barbecue serves food from 6.00-8.30pm every Sunday.

For those with a need for a private function – whether a business meeting, a shoot lunch, or a family celebration – the choice of rooms and large garden mean that the space and facilities are available to suit all kinds of occasions.

But if all this doesn’t provide reason enough to visit the Royal Oak, there is one more temptation on offer! Try the new Royal Oak with friends and receive a free bottle of house wine with every two course order for four people (and multiples of four). Offer available for the first 50 bookings. State offer code of RO3 when booking. This offer does not apply to our Sunday evening barbecue.

The Royal Oak team hope you like the sound of what we’re doing and we look forward to welcoming you to the Royal Oak soon.
